About the Role

Our client, a prominent engineering consultancy with a strong portfolio in commercial and retail developments, is seeking a talented Structural Engineer to join their vibrant team in Benoni, Gauteng . This role is integral to the design and delivery of innovative and sustainable structural solutions for a variety of commercial buildings, including shopping centers, office blocks, and mixed-use developments. You will be responsible for structural analysis, design, and ensuring the safety and integrity of these structures from concept through to completion. We are looking for a motivated engineer with excellent technical skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with architects, developers, and contractors. Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for reinforced concrete and steel structures for commercial buildings.
• Develop detailed design calculations, drawings, and specifications for foundations, superstructures, and associated elements.
• Ensure designs comply with the National Building Regulations (NBR), SANS codes, and relevant international standards.
• Collaborate closely with architectural teams to achieve aesthetic and functional design integration.
• Manage structural engineering aspects of projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
• Conduct site inspections to monitor construction progress and quality, and resolve on-site issues.
• Review and approve structural shop drawings and calculations submitted by contractors.
• Prepare structural reports, feasibility studies, and tender documents.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and support.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in structural engineering materials and technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or equivalent degree in Civil Engineering, with a specialization in Structural Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or Technologist (Pr. Tech. Eng.).
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant post-graduate experience in structural design, particularly for commercial or multi-story buildings.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., Etabs, SAP2000, Robot Structural Analysis) and CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit).
• Strong understanding of building materials, construction techniques, and project management principles.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Experience working with developers, architects, and contractors.
• Previous experience in the Benoni or greater Gauteng area is preferred.
