Job summary

RMG Recruitment (Pty) Ltd in Cape Town seeks a Professional Structural Engineer or Technologist to lead planning, design and contract administration of building and engineering projects from inception to completion.

You will prepare calculations and specifications, manage design teams, and ensure quality deliverables while coordinating with clients and professionals on site and in the office.

Qualifications

• At least a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with emphasis on structural engineering.
• Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist.
• At least 2 years’ verifiable post-registration experience in planning, design and contract administration of building and engineering projects from inception to completion.
• Strong background in design of bulk water reservoirs, water treatment works, stormwater infrastructure, water retaining structures and reinforced concrete/steel framed structures.
• Experience with managing design teams and delivering design calculations, drawings, schedules and reports on time and within budget.
• Strong understanding of design engineering codes and standards.
• Proficiency in Master Series or Prokon, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
• Experience in BIM software ACC Docs, ACC Build, Revit and AutoCAD.
• Must have a strong client focus.
• Must take ownership of projects.
• Must be an effective communicator.
• Own Vehicle
• Valid Driver’s Licence

Responsibilities

Structural Engineer position available inCape Town.

Our client who are Consulting Engineers are recruiting a Professional Structural Engineer or Technologist for its office in Cape Town.

Key Responsibilities:

• Planning, design and contract administration of engineering and building projects from inception to completion.
• Prepare engineering calculations.
• Prepare project and technical specifications.
• Must be able to work independently as well as leading an internal project team of designers and draughtspersons.
• Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.
• Assist with managing and quality checking deliverables.
• Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior and intermediate engineers and play an active role in the continuing professional development of unregistered technical staff.
• Preparation of tender documents.
• Preparation of reports (Project Inception, Concept and Viability, Design, tender evaluation, progress, financial, close-out, etc).
• Carry out structural condition assessments and report writing.
• Day-to day contract administration and management of the structural works of building and engineering projects.
• Handling of technical queries and resolutions and leading Site and Technical Meetings on site, including the taking of minutes.
• Communicate frequently with all professionals and clients.
• Handling of technical queries and dispute resolutions in conjunction with others.
• Assist with project safety and environmental matters during construction.
• General office and project related admin.

Skills and Qualifications:
