Job summary

Placements24 in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, seeks a Principal Mining Engineer to lead long-term mining strategies, optimize design, and drive safety and efficiency across large-scale operations both on-site and remotely.

You will guide complex studies, mentor a team of engineers, and partner with geologists and environmental specialists to deliver value and ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Mining Engineering or closely related field.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in mine planning, design and operations.
• Open-pit and/or underground mining methods and optimization knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate, and implement long-term mining plans and strategies for large-scale mining operations.
• Provide expert guidance on mine design, development, and production optimization.
• Lead complex technical studies including feasibility studies, economic evaluations, and risk assessments.
• Mentor and guide a team of mining engineers, fostering growth and best practices.
• Collaborate with geologists, environmental specialists, and stakeholders for integrated planning.
• Oversee application of advanced mining technologies and methodologies.
• Ensure all mining activities comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for senior management and external stakeholders.
• Champion innovation and continuous improvement within the mining engineering function.
