Functions / Responsibilities:
Customer Experience
- Demonstrate and ensure all associates project a positive attitude to customers by serving promptly, efficiently and courteously (Greet, Thank, Help).
- Enhance customer experience by recognizing and resolving conflict promptly such as queries or complaints.
- Enforce the “sunset rule” – today’s work today.
- Ensure teams understand and execute customer experience initiatives as per company requirement.
- Develop and implement action plans derived from customer experience reports.
- Ensure all associates are attired as per company standards.
- Ensure associates within his/her control have the required skills and product knowledge to provide excellent customer service.
- Build customer relationships and deliver service focused on fulfilling customer needs.
- Maintain optimum service levels in areas of responsibility.
- Analyze market trends and initiate strategies to improve sales, e.g. competitor shopping.
- Analyze and develop action plans to address store sales performance using daily and weekly reports.
- Support, coach and motivate teams to exceed set budgeted sales targets.
Expenses
- Plan, monitor and maximise market opportunities to achieve monthly turnover.
- Monitor and control all expenses to prevent over expenditure, e.g. scheduling, overtime, auction costs, stationery, electricity.
- Ensure effective management of TK records – schedules, leave types, clockings, audit trails.
- Ensure the in‑store markdown process is adhered to as per company requirements.
- Manage auction costs as per procedure.
- Adhere to all security and risk measures as per compliance standards.
- Follow high‑risk policy and procedures.
- Monitor implementation of the stock‑take process and procedures.
- Maintain disciplined control on security to minimise shrinkage and damage.
- Implement, execute and maintain post‑stock‑take action plans.
Inventory Management
- Ensure stock‑holding levels align with merchandising plans and sales performance.
- Analyse merchandise movement to highlight slow/fast sellers.
- Action aged/obsolescence stock per company procedure.
- Maintain core stock and promotional lines as per standard.
- Analyse SAP CAR reports and initiate strategies to improve store performance.
- Implement latest version of space planning per standards.
- Manage gap‑scanning process per requirements.
- Update visual displays to promote new products, local events, festive and seasonal themes.
- Display stock per merchandising standards – correct PI labels, bar code, price, SSDMA check.
- Implement signage standards per Signage Manual.
Leadership
- Continuously enhance existing capabilities and develop new skills.
- Ensure all associates are regularly trained to achieve required standard.
- Coach and develop team to meet store standards.
- Complete the individual development training pack (IDTP) for team; conduct regular one‑on‑one conversations.
- Adhere to performance improvement process (PIP).
- Onboard new associates per company requirements.
- Understand IR processes to conduct disciplinary investigations and hearings where appropriate.
- Own recruitment and selection process.
- Implement and control succession pipeline – talent pool across levels.
- Facilitate collaboration between teams.
- Act in line with dominant values – integrity, customer service, excellence, respect.
- Achieve win‑win outcomes when interests conflict and resources are limited.
General
- Maintain compliance areas – OHASA, stock loss, Massmart audits.
- Adhere to role per OHASA 16.2 appointee.
- Maintain housekeeping standards – assets, walls, ceiling, air‑conditioning, fixtures, stockrooms, security systems.
- Acknowledge and act on Store Operations communication.
- Conduct Management By Walk About (MBWA).
- Be supportive, flexible, and assist as required when duties fall outside position.
- Keep abreast of retail developments near store.
Minimum Academic, Professional Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications
- Matric
- Relevant tertiary qualification advantageous
Experience
- 5 years retail experience in a senior management role
