Telkom South Africa seeks a Specialist: Network Technology Introduction to own the technology lifecycle for mobile network elements and end-user devices. Owner of the Technology Lifecycle Process of mobile network elements and mobile end-user hardware/devices and software, with the responsibility of investigating, researching, testing, recommending and introducing new technology, hardware/devices and software into the Telkom Technology Portfolio, including certification of hardware/devices and software, and running and maintaining the testing facility. The writing of formal documentation, including technical test results and recommendations as well as work instructions. High level support to the rest of the Engineering team, Operations and Build Team, as well as Regulatory Affairs (if applicable). Conducting and facilitating technology and strategy presentations to stakeholders.
Obtain and analyse business requirements.

Align to Telkom’s mobile strategy.
Verify requirements with relevant stakeholders .
Document technology strategies and directives with stakeholders.
Research, evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, industry trends, vendor solutions and strategic opportunities for integration into the mobile network.
Analyse and align technology initiatives with Telkom's mobile strategy, network roadmap and business objectives, documenting strategies, directives and associated impacts.
Develop appropriate business case.
Own and govern the technology lifecycle process for approved network technologies, end-user devices, hardware and software.
Uphold technical standards by drafting specifications in line with internal standards.
Update General Agreement with vendor with new specifications.
Participate in RFP Procurement Processes.
Create test cases for hardware and software, analyse test requirements and schedule testing.
Produce and maintain formal technical documentation, test reports, certification records, recommendations and work instructions relating to technology lifecycle activities.
Testing and logging of escalated faults.
On-going testing and certification of patches and upgrade of firmware and applications according to a release management process
Liaise with customers for any joint testing.
Liaise with technical areas to initiate technical compliance testing and analyse technical test results.
Manage stakeholder relationships through regular communication, presentations, training, feedback and recommendation of technology solutions.
Collaborate with OEMs and internal teams to resolve issues and implement improvements.
Keep accurate and up-to-date records of end-user device lifecycle, including all hardware and software test results, and certification documentation.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal quality requirements.
Oversee, operate, and maintain the hardware and software testing facility.
Provide specialist technical support and guidance to Engineering, Operations, Build Teams and Regulatory Affairs where applicable.
Conduct and facilitate technology evaluations, workshops and strategy presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience:
Relevant 4 year Engineering Degree or Diploma (NQF Level 7).
5 years post qualification experience in telecommunications, 3 years’ experience in the investigation of new technologies, 3 years’ experience motivating and integrating technologies applying procurement procedures.
