Job summary

Placements24 in Tembisa, Gauteng, seeks a compassionate Special Needs Childminder and Therapeutic Support professional to care for a child with diverse developmental needs. You will work closely with therapists and parents to implement tailored care plans, support daily activities, and promote development in a safe, inclusive home setting.

The role requires patient, adaptable individuals with excellent communication and a genuine passion for improving outcomes for children with special needs.

Qualifications

• Proven experience working with children with diverse special needs.
• Knowledge of various therapeutic approaches and interventions for children with developmental challenges.
• Relevant qualification in special education, child psychology, therapy assistance, or a related field is highly desirable.
• Certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with families and professionals.
• High level of patience, resilience, and empathy.
• Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
• Demonstrated ability to follow detailed care plans and instructions accurately.
• A genuine passion for enhancing the lives of children with special needs in Tembisa, Gauteng.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and supervision for a child with special needs, ensuring their safety and comfort.
• Implement tailored care plans and therapeutic activities designed in consultation with therapists and parents.
• Assist with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, feeding, and mobility, with dignity and respect.
• Facilitate the child’s social interaction and participation in age-appropriate activities.
• Maintain a structured and organized home environment conducive to the child’s needs.
• Accurately record observations on the child’s progress, behaviour, and responses to therapies, and communicate these to the parents and relevant professionals.
• Administer medication as prescribed, following strict guidelines and protocols.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of therapists (e.g., occupational, speech, behavioural) to ensure consistent support.
• Manage challenging behaviours with patience and understanding, employing positive reinforcement techniques.
