Placements24 is seeking a Chemical Process Engineer for its Soweto R&D team to develop and optimize chemical processes, perform bench-scale and pilot plant work, and scale up successful technologies for production. You will collaborate with chemists and engineers to drive safe, efficient, and sustainable process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in chemical process development, R&D, or related engineering role.
• Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena.
• Experience with laboratory and pilot plant operations is essential.
• Proficiency in process simulation software is an advantage.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to safety and environmental best practices.
• Experience in the specialty chemicals sector is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and development experiments to design, optimize, and scale up chemical processes.
• Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and provide recommendations for process improvements.
• Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for new and modified processes.
• Collaborate with chemists and other engineers to ensure seamless transfer of technology from lab to pilot and production scales.
• Perform mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, and preliminary cost estimations.
• Troubleshoot process issues encountered during development and pilot plant operations.
• Ensure all R&D activities comply with stringent safety, health, and environmental regulations.
• Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations on process development activities.
• Stay current with advancements in chemical engineering technologies and R&D methodologies.
• Assist in the commissioning and start-up of pilot plant equipment and processes.
