Job summary

Synechron, a global consulting firm, invites a Solution Architect (Cards & Payments) to join our Cape Town team. The role requires leading software design and architecture for card payments platforms, translating business ideas into scalable technical solutions, and guiding developers with architectural blueprints.

The candidate should have 10+ years of development experience with PHP (Laravel/Lumen), Java, GoLang or Python, plus familiarity with microservices, Docker/Kubernetes, and cloud

Qualifications

• 10+ years of development experience
• Strong knowledge of PHP (Laravel, Lumen), Java, GoLang or Python
• Experience with queuing technologies (RabbitMQ, SQS)
• Redis caching experience
• Docker & Kubernetes deployment experience
• AWS experience would be an advantage
• Understanding of microservices and Web API integration
• Excellent design-pattern knowledge
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience with large-scale software projects / ecommerce is a plus

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and execute software systems and applications to address business needs
• Define all aspects of software and app development, from coding standards to workflow and appropriate technology
• Identify areas where processes and system architecture can be improved
• Provide architectural blueprints and technical leadership to the IT team
• Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes to ensure the highest quality product platform
• Work closely with the product team to translate business ideas into technical solutions
• Keep up to date with technology trends in the industry
• Contribute towards creating documentation that enhances organisational understanding and keeps track of decision making
• Do code reviews for selected complex stories
• Do hands‑on coding in PHP (Laravel, Lumen), Java, GoLang, or Python when the need arise
• Do architectural reviews to ensure developers interpreted and followed your specifications correctly

Job Description:

Required Skills:

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in development
• Broad understanding of coding, programming languages and frameworks, especially PHP (Laravel, Lumen), Java, GoLang, or Python (advantages)
• Experience working with Queuing Technologies, i.e. RabbitMQ, SQS,
• Experience working with Caching Technology, i.e. Redis
• Experience building and deploying Docker Technology, Kubernetes, etc.
• AWS experience would be an advantage
• Good understanding of Microservices and Web API integration
• Extensive knowledge of the software development process and corresponding technologies
• Excellent understanding of design patterns and architectural styles
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience designing and implementing software applications, both backend and frontend
• Experience working on large-scale software projects, ecommerce platform building experience is a plus.
• Some knowledge of fintech would be advantageous
• Ability to work in a team or independently

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field
