A diversified South African financial services and wealth management group is seeking aSoftware Testerwho willprovide independent testing capacity within the IT Development team, ensuring platform changes meet approved specifications before production release -Johannesburg or Cape Town.
Test Design & Execution: Review user stories and specifications for testability; design comprehensive test cases (positive, negative, boundary); and execute functional, integration, regression, cross-browser, and usability testing.
Data & API Verification: Write SQL queries for backend data validation and test REST API endpoints using Postman.
Defect Management: Log defects with precise reproduction steps, severity, and priority; track through to retesting and closure. Escalate high-risk issues (regulatory, financial calculation, client data exposure) directly to the CTO and Project Manager.
Release & Audit Support: Produce test summary and evidence packs, ensure full traceability (requirement to test to defect), and recommend release readiness (withholding sign-off if exit criteria fail).
Test Data & UAT: Prepare de-identified or synthetic test data in compliance with POPIA; support and guide users during UAT.
Automation: Build and maintain automated checks for high-value regression scenarios under CTO guidance.
Process Contribution: Participate in Agile ceremonies (planning, stand-ups, retrospectives), estimate test efforts, and contribute to standardizing testing practices.
Essential: Matric / National Senior Certificate, plus a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or similar.
Preferred: ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (to be obtained within 12 months if not already held).
Advantageous: ISTQB Agile Tester extension, or formal SQL/automation certifications.
Core Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands‑on software testing experience within a structured SDLC, specifically designing test cases from specifications and maintaining regression suites across multiple releases.
Technical Competencies: Practical experience with test management/defect-tracking tools, working SQL (SELECT, joins, aggregates), and API testing (Postman or equivalent).
Environment: Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
Domain Advantage: Background in financial services (investment, wealth, or insurance platforms) and exposure to test automation tools (Selenium, Playwright, Cypress).
Testing Fundamentals: Test levels, types, and design techniques (equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis).
Technical Concepts: Relational databases, SQL, REST APIs (verbs, status codes, payloads), and SDLC/Agile practices.
Compliance & Regulation: Working knowledge of POPIA data protection in test environments, alongside awareness of financial regulations (FAIS) and the importance of audit trails.
Analytical: Deconstructs specifications to identify edge cases, failure paths, and testable conditions.
Documentation: Writes clear, repeatable test cases, unambiguous defect reports, and audit-ready evidence packs.
Execution: Proficient in exploratory testing, SQL querying, Postman, and browser developer tools.
Professional: Strong test estimation, risk‑escalation, and communication skills across both technical and business stakeholders.
