Job summary

SQ72 is seeking a Senior Test Analyst for a 2-month maternity relief contract to support delivery teams in Johannesburg. The role requires 7+ years of hands-on experience across web, mobile, API and enterprise apps, with strong STLC knowledge and ISTQB certification.

You will lead test planning, design, execution, defect management, and quality reporting, mentoring junior testers and promoting best practices.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on software testing across web, mobile, API, and enterprise applications.
• Strong understanding of the SDLC and STLC.
• Proven experience in test planning, analysis, design, execution, defect management and quality reporting.
• Experience creating test strategies, plans, cases and test data.
• Hands-on automation with Playwright, Selenium, Cypress or Robot Framework.
• Experience testing REST APIs using Postman/Swagger/Supertest.
• Strong SQL skills for data validation and integrity testing.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira or similar ALM/Test Management tools.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab CI).
• ISTQB Foundation Certification required.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

• Lead test planning, analysis, design, execution, and reporting across projects
• Define the appropriate levels and types of testing for each project
• Review business and technical requirements to identify quality risks early
• Design and execute functional, API, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests
• Track, manage, and report defects through to resolution
• Produce quality metrics and release readiness reports for stakeholders
• Collaborate closely with Business Analysts, Developers, Product Owners, and Project Managers
• Mentor junior testers and promote testing best practices across delivery teams
• Contribute to continuous improvement and quality engineering initiatives

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years' experience in software testing across web, mobile, API, and enterprise applications
• Strong understanding of the SDLC and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC)
• Proven experience in test planning, test analysis, design, execution, defect management, and quality reporting
• Experience creating comprehensive test strategies, test plans, test cases, and test data
• Hands-on experience with modern automation frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or Robot Framework
• Ability to analyse automated test results and work with Automation Engineers to improve coverage and stability
• Experience testing REST APIs using Postman, Swagger, Supertest, or similar tools
• Strong SQL skills for database validation and data integrity testing
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar ALM/Test Management tools
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar)
• Understanding of version control using Git
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery teams
• ISTQB Foundation Certification (required) — Advanced ISTQB certifications are advantageous
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills — ability to present testing progress, risks, and quality metrics to technical and business audiences
• A passion for continuous improvement, quality engineering, and mentoring junior team members
• Duration: 2 months (Maternity Relief)
• Start Date: Immediate / As soon as possible
