Job summary

Incomar, Centurion, is seeking a Software Engineer for Mission Control and Operations. The role focuses on developing desktop software and testing suites for flight operations and simulators.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/ Electronic/ Computer Engineering or software-related field, 3–5 years of desktop software experience, and strong C/C++ skills (C17/C++20+). Experience with GitHub, Qt Creator, and technical writing is preferred.

• Technical writing and software documentation skills.
• Proficient in MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Performing software development activities, including architectural design, interface design, implementation, coding, documentation, verification & testing.
• This role will initially concentrate on the testing aspect of the software.
• Configuration and version management of all software source code and software files.
• Simulation, data analysis and report writing applicable to allocated tasks.
• Ensuring that customer requirements and applicable standards are met.
• Assisting with cost and time estimates for engineering tasks/projects.
• Planning and executing tasks within agreed to budgets and timescales.
• Apply sound ethical principles.

Position: Software Engineer - Mission Control and Operations

Incomar is an aerospace and defence company based in Centurion, South Africa. We are continuously expanding our specialised product development and flight operations capabilities. The group was established in South Africa in 1999, with its origins in military aircraft weapons and avionics integration and flight testing. The company is well established in the local and international industry, with a strong capability in several specialist areas, including:

• Systems Design, Development, and Integration.


• System Testing on a range of platforms / products.


• Product Development.


• Flight Test Execution and Support.

Incomar is looking for motivated individuals to participate in the software development effort on Mission Control and Operations systems, and the test suites, simulators and equipment related to these systems.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering, or a relevant software-related tertiary qualification.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 3-5 years of professional desktop software development experience.


• Software architecture design, development and testing skills.


• Proficient in C/C++ programming languages, preferably C17/C++20 or later.


• Exposure to software version control tools (GitHub, etc).


• Proficient in development environments and software design packages (e.g. Qt Creator).


• Technical writing and software documentation skills.


• Proficient in MS Office.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Military, Defence Industry and/or Avionics development experience.


• Knowledge or experience in the RTCA DO-178C and RTCA DO-278A design guidelines.


• Experience in software testing, experience with Qt Squish will be advantageous.


• Product development and system engineering skills involving all aspects of the \"V\" life cycle and the system engineering management process.


• Proficient in requirements management (experience with Cradle preferable, but not mandatory).


• Exposure to continuous integration tools (Jenkins, Atlassian Bamboo, etc).


• Exposure to both Ubuntu and Windows operating system principals.


• Good general understanding of network interaction principals (OSI Model, basic protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, etc.).
