Job summary

Mediclinic Southern Africa is seeking a Senior Professional Nurse to oversee a 14-bed surgical unit in Paarl. The incumbent will function as a Line Manager to ensure a safe, positive patient experience by mitigating clinical risks and coordinating care delivery, while managing human resources to optimise processes.

The successful candidate will hold a Professional Nurse qualification, with a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing for specialist units, and have at least 3 years in a hospital setting

• Professional Nurse qualification and registration
• Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing for specialist units (e.g. Perioperative) preferred
• Leadership/mentorship experience advantageous

Responsibilities

• Oversee a 14-bed surgical unit and operate as Line Manager to the team

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Senior Professional Nurse in this role will oversee a 14 bed surgical unit. The incumbunt will function as a Line Manager to the team in ensuring a safe and positive client experience by mitigating clinical risks and co-ordinating care delivery. They further manage human and other resources to ensure that staff are engaged and processes are optimised.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

• Ensure comprehensive and safe patient care by mitigating risks and meeting set clinical quality standards
• Manage and mitigate clinical risks in the unit
• Manage and actively contribute to a positive client experience in the
  hospital
• Lead and manage staff in the unit
• Empower and build staff competence through continuous assessment and development
• Manage the unit's operational and capital expenses according to financial
  and budget guidelines and ensure optimal utilisation of resources
• Support the achievement of interdepartmental outcomes
• Manage key stakeholder relations

Professional Nurse qualification and

Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing if managing a specialist unit (e.g. Perioperative Nursing)

3 years Professional Nurse experience in a hospital

1 year mentor experience
