Job summary

Mediclinic Panorama in Panorama, Cape Town is seeking a Senior Professional Nurse to support the Unit Manager by ensuring safe, high-quality patient care, mitigate clinical risks and coordinate care delivery in a busy hospital unit.

You will provide direct patient care, mentor trainee nurses and uphold infection control and pharmacology standards, developing nursing care plans and contributing to staff development and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Professional nurse qualification; basic nursing registration.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing if managing a specialist unit (e.g. Perioperative Nursing).
• Experience in a hospital setting is required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure comprehensive and safe patient care by mitigating risks and meeting clinical quality standards.
• Manage the client experience and workflow in the unit.
• Ensure optimal supply, retention, and utilisation of staffing resources.
• Empower staff through assessment and development.
• Assist with management of operational expenses (stock and capital).

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Senior Professional Nurse supports the Unit Manager in ensuring a safe and positive client experience by mitigating clinical risks and co-ordinating care delivery. They further provide direct patient care, as well as mentorship to new and student nurses in the unit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

• Empower and build staff competence through continuous assessment and development


• Assist with the effective management of operational expenses (including stock and capital)

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

Professional Nurse qualification and

Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing if managing a specialist unit (e.g. Perioperative Nursing)
