Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, service, and repair HVAC systems including chillers, AHUs, FCUs, ventilation and extraction systems.
• Conduct scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure performance and efficiency.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex HVAC faults and perform repairs to minimise downtime.
• Monitor system performance, energy consumption, and equipment condition.
• Respond to breakdowns, emergencies and urgent maintenance.
• Ensure all work complies with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Supervise and provide technical guidance to junior HVAC technicians.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, repairs and service activities.
• Assist with planning and implementation of HVAC installations, upgrades and refurbishments.

SENIOR Senior HVAC Technician

We are urgently looking to recruit an experienced and highly skilled Senior HVAC Technician to join our hospitality team in Stellenbosch. The Senior HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems across the hotel and associated buildings. The role ensures optimal system performance, energy efficiency, and compliance with safety standards, while providing technical leadership and support to the maintenance team and assisting with project work.

Key responsibilities

• Install; maintain, service, and repair HVAC systems, including chillers, split units, AHUs, FCUs, ventilation, and extraction systems.
• Conduct scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure optimal system performance, reliability, and efficiency.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex HVAC faults and carry out effective repairs to minimise equipment downtime.
• Monitor HVAC system performance, including temperature, airflow, energy consumption, and equipment condition.
• Respond promptly to HVAC breakdowns, emergencies, and urgent maintenance requirements.
• Ensure all HVAC work is carried out safely and in compliance with applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Handle refrigerants responsibly and in accordance with applicable legislation and environmental requirements.
• Supervise; guide, and provide technical support to junior HVAC technicians and maintenance staff.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, repairs, and service activities.
• Assist with the planning and implementation of HVAC installations, upgrades, refurbishments, and system improvements.
• Provide technical input on maintenance planning, equipment replacement, and HVAC system improvements.
• Coordinate and liaise with contractors, suppliers, and external service providers where required.
• Identify and recommend opportunities to improve energy efficiency, system performance, reliability, and operational cost savings.
• Ensure HVAC tools, equipment, materials, and spare parts are properly managed and available when required.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment when carrying out HVAC maintenance and repairs.

Knowledge; skills and qualities

• Relevant HVAC / Refrigeration qualification or recognised trade certification.
• Proven senior-level experience as an HVAC Technician, with strong practical experience in HVAC maintenance and repairs.
• Previous experience within the hospitality, hotel, lodge, resort, commercial, or facilities management environment will be highly advantageous.
• Strong technical knowledge of air-conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, HVAC control systems, and air distribution systems.
• Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex HVAC issues.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, schematics, and specifications.
• Valid refrigerant handling certification and sound knowledge of applicable refrigerant regulations.
• Strong knowledge of occupational health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of maintenance requirements, and provide technical leadership to a team.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays, and respond to emergency call-outs when required.
• Valid driver’s license & own reliable transport.
