Job summary

Sakata Seed Southern Africa, part of the Sakata Group, seeks a Degree-qualified professional for a busy Shipping and Procurement role in Lanseria, South Africa. You will handle import/export shipping documentation, liaise with freight forwarders, and coordinate procurement of local product and packaging.

The role requires knowledge of Incoterms, familiarity with customs and VAT legislation, strong Excel skills, and the ability to work independently in a multicultural environment.

Qualifications

  • Degree in International Trade or Supply Chain Management.
  • 2–3 years’ experience in import/export shipping administration and procurement.
  • Certificate in Import/Export Management with Incoterms knowledge.
  • Proficient with freight forwarders, clearance agents and permits.
  • Strong Excel skills and ERP system knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Process shipping documents for import/export of non-commercial products within Africa and to other continents.
  • Liaise with freight forwarders, clearing agents and customers on shipping requirements.
  • Coordinate phytosanitary permits and trade documents with Dept of Agriculture.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of shipping release documents to customers.
  • Monitor shipments, update schedules and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Liaise with suppliers and place orders to procure local product and packaging.
  • Maintain shipping files for QA and audits.

Job description

Do you have a Degree in International Trade or Supply Chain Management? Are you motivated by working in an environment with a high level of activity and attention to deadlines? Do you enjoy being part of a professional supply chain that support commercial activity? You will join Sakata's local Shipping and Procurement Department that focuses on importing and exporting seed and the procurement of raw material. You will follow the requirements defined by the international trade regulations and company ISO and quality policies.

What will you do?
  • Processing of shipping documents to import and export non-commercial products between Southern Africa, other countries on the African continent as well as to Europe, Asia and the Americas.
  • Liaising with freight forwarders, clearing agents and customers regarding special shipping requirements.
  • Liaising with the Dept of Agriculture to obtain phytosanitary permits and trade documents required for shipping.
  • Ensure shipping release documents are delivered to customers on time.
  • Monitor and track shipment, updating the shipment schedules and communication with stake-holders.
  • Liaising with suppliers and placing orders to procure local product and packaging according to approved specifications.
  • Maintain shipping files for Quality Management and audit purposes.
Where will you work?

You will be based in South Africa, Gauteng Lanseria Head Office. Your manager, Michelle Haywards, will be based onsite.

Do you fit this profile?

You have:

  • Degree in International Trade or Supply Chain Management
  • 2-3 years' experience in import and export shipping administration, especially within African countries as well as procurement.
  • A certificate in Import/Export Management, with working knowledge of the latest Incoterms and relevant customs and VAT legislation
  • Hands-on experience with freight forwarders, clearance agents and obtaining permits for the movement of goods.
  • A high level of proficiency in Excel
  • Knowledge of an ERP or similar system
  • The ability to work independently
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
