About the Role

A prominent urban development and planning consultancy, working on impactful projects across Gauteng , is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Senior Urban Planner . This role, based in Sandton , will involve leading the planning and design of sustainable, integrated, and economically viable urban developments. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of spatial planning legislation, land use management, and development frameworks within South Africa. You will be responsible for managing complex planning projects, stakeholder engagement, and contributing to the strategic vision for urban growth. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation and submission of spatial development frameworks, land use applications, and rezoning schemes.
• Conduct comprehensive site analyses, policy reviews, and feasibility studies for proposed developments.
• Develop strategic planning proposals and master plans for urban areas, considering economic, social, and environmental factors.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for planning-related assignments.
• Facilitate effective stakeholder engagement, including consultations with government authorities, communities, developers, and consultants.
• Ensure compliance with national, provincial, and local planning legislation and policies.
• Prepare and present planning reports, impact assessments, and recommendations to clients and decision-making bodies.
• Mentor and guide junior planning staff, fostering their professional development.

• Stay informed about current urban planning trends, research, and legislative changes.

Requirements

• A Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning or a related field (e.g., Geography, Development Studies).
• Professional registration with the South African Council for the Planning Profession (SACPLAN) as a Professional Planner (Pr Pln).
• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in urban planning and development, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
• In-depth knowledge of the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act (SPLUMA) and other relevant planning legislation.
• Proven experience in managing complex development applications and urban design projects.
• Strong analytical, research, report writing, and presentation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in GIS software and other relevant planning and design tools.
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and work effectively under pressure.
