Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a well-established transport and logistics company operating throughout South Africa, is seeking a highly experienced and dependable Senior Truck Driver to join their fleet. While the driving role itself is on-site, the management and coordination aspects of this position will involve remote communication and reporting, making it a hybrid opportunity. This role primarily focuses on long-haul routes, requiring significant time on the road. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods, maintaining vehicle integrity, and upholding the company's reputation for reliability. Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy-duty trucks for long-haul transportation of goods across various routes.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, ensuring all safety and mechanical checks are completed.
• Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, regulations, and company safety policies.
• Load and unload cargo as required, ensuring proper securing of goods.
• Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery details.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch and operations management regarding route progress, delays, and any issues encountered.
• Report any mechanical issues or required maintenance for the vehicle promptly.
• Provide feedback on route efficiency and potential improvements to the dispatch team.
• Uphold a professional image and provide excellent service to clients at delivery points.
• Participate in occasional team meetings and training sessions, which may involve remote participation.

Requirements

• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) and a valid Code 14 driver's license.
• Minimum of 7 years of proven experience as a professional truck driver, with substantial long-haul experience.
• Excellent driving record with no major traffic violations.
• Proficiency in operating various types of heavy-duty trucks.
• Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety procedures.
• Ability to manage time effectively and adhere to strict schedules.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written, for reporting and coordination.
• Physical fitness and the ability to handle loading and unloading tasks.
• Willingness to undergo background checks and drug screening.
• Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs) is an advantage.
