Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s in Civil Engineering with Transportation focus.
• Pr.Eng registration with ECSA preferred.
• 7+ years in transportation engineering, planning and design.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, design and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects.
• Conduct traffic impact assessments, feasibility studies and demand forecasting.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent civil engineering consultancy based in Durban, is actively seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer to lead critical projects in urban and regional planning. This role requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of traffic engineering principles, transportation network design, and public transport systems. As a key member of the transportation planning division, you will be responsible for developing innovative solutions to enhance mobility and connectivity within KwaZulu-Natal. The position is office-based, fostering close collaboration with a team of dedicated engineers and planners. You will play a vital role in shaping the future of transportation infrastructure in Durban and its surrounding areas, ensuring sustainable and efficient movement of people and goods. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design, and implementation of transportation infrastructure projects, including roads, highways, intersections, and public transit facilities.
• Conduct traffic impact assessments, feasibility studies, and demand forecasting.
• Develop traffic management plans and operational analyses for complex urban environments.
• Utilize advanced traffic modeling software to simulate and optimize traffic flow.
• Collaborate with municipal authorities, developers, and other stakeholders to integrate transportation plans with broader urban development goals.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and design documentation for clients and regulatory agencies.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior transportation engineers and technicians.
• Ensure projects adhere to relevant South African transport standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Contribute to business development by identifying new project opportunities and preparing winning proposals.
• Manage project teams, budgets, and schedules to ensure successful project delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation Engineering.
• Professional registration (Pr.Eng) with ECSA is strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in transportation engineering, planning, and design.
• Demonstrated expertise in traffic analysis software such as VISSIM, Synchro, HCS, or similar.
• Proficiency in GIS software for spatial analysis and network planning.
• Strong understanding of South African transport policies, standards, and NDT strategies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in public transport planning and non-motorized transport (NMT) design is a plus.
• Must be able to work collaboratively within an office environment in Durban.
