Job summary

Dana Spicer Axle South Africa (Pty) Ltd invites applications for a Toolprover who will set up, operate, and adjust machinery and tooling to ensure high-quality production. You will inspect finished parts, control machine parameters, and optimize tool performance to meet tight tolerances and production schedules.

The role requires a recognised Toolmaker trade qualification, 3–5 years' post-trade experience, and ability to read engineering drawings.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Recognised Trade Test qualification as a Toolmaker essential
• N3-N6 Engineering qualification would be advantageous
• Minimum 3-5 years' post-trade experience in manufacturing/engineering
• Experience operating and setting up CNC and conventional machine tools
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specs
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, verniers, dial indicators, height gauges)
• Experience conducting tool try-outs and corrective actions to meet quality standards
• Experience in high-volume manufacturing, preferably automotive industry

Responsibilities

• Conduct test runs of tools, dies, and equipment to verify specifications and optimize performance
• Cut, shape, trim and prepare materials using machinery and hand tools
• File, grind, shim and adjust components for accurate assembly
• Manufacture, repair, maintain and modify tools, dies, jigs, gauges and tooling
• Assemble components to required tolerances and quality standards
• Inspect tooling and finished products for dimensional accuracy and surface finish
• Measure and lay out materials using precision instruments
• Safely lift, position and secure parts for machining and inspection
• Set up and optimize conventional and CNC machines for quality and efficiency
• Monitor machine performance and adjust to maintain productivity and quality
• Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards
