Placements24 seeks an experienced Senior Telecommunications Engineer specializing in RAN Optimization for a remote role. You will analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize Radio Access Network performance to enhance service quality across extensive coverage areas.

A strong background in wireless technologies and hands-on tool proficiency are essential. You will monitor KPIs, perform in-depth KPI analyses, tune RAN parameters, and collaborate with planning/engineering teams to ensure optimized network

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in telecommunications with focus on RAN engineering and optimization.
• Proficiency with RAN optimization tools such as Atoll, Nemo Outdoor, TEMS.

Responsibilities

• Monitor RAN performance metrics and identify degradation trends; implement corrective actions.
• Analyze network KPIs (call drop rate, throughput, latency, handover) to spot optimization opportunities.
• Configure and tune RAN parameters to improve capacity, coverage and QoS.
• Troubleshoot complex RAN issues including interference and coverage gaps.
• Develop and maintain performance reports, dashboards and trend analyses.
• Collaborate with planning and engineering to ensure optimized network design and deployment.
• Stay updated on 4G/LTE and 5G RAN technologies and optimization techniques.
• Conduct drive tests and post-processing to validate improvements.
• Participate in vendor discussions/evaluations for RAN equipment/software.
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices in RAN optimization.

About the Role

Our client, a major telecommunications operator, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Telecommunications Engineer specializing in RAN Optimization to join their team. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere. You will be responsible for analyzing, troubleshooting, and optimizing the performance of the Radio Access Network (RAN) to ensure exceptional service quality for our customers. Your work will directly impact network efficiency, capacity, and user experience across our extensive coverage areas. Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field.


• Minimum of 5 years of experience in telecommunications, with a strong focus on RAN engineering and optimization.


• In-depth knowledge of GSM, UMTS, LTE, and 5G NR radio access network technologies.


• Proficiency with RAN optimization tools and software (e.g., Atoll, Nemo Outdoor, TEMS).


• Experience with network performance analysis and KPI monitoring.


• Strong understanding of RF principles and propagation models.


• Ability to interpret complex network data and translate it into actionable optimization plans.


• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.


• Effective communication and collaboration skills, suitable for a remote work environment.


• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa and able to work remotely.
