Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Telecommunications Network Engineer for a remote-first role in South Africa. You will design, implement, and optimize complex telecom networks, spanning fiber, microwave, and cellular technologies, while driving architecture, security, and performance initiatives.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in network design and management, deep expertise in IP routing (MPLS, BGP, OSPF), and strong wireless know-how (4G/5G/LTE).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in telecommunications network design, implementation, and management.
• Expertise in IP networking, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, and other routing protocols.
• In-depth knowledge of wireless technologies (4G, 5G, LTE) and transmission systems.
• Experience with network simulation and analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Superior communication and collaboration abilities, especially in a remote setting.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCIE, JNCIE) are highly advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain advanced telecommunications network infrastructures, including fiber optics, microwave, and cellular technologies.
• Develop and document network architecture, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and company standards.
• Perform complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis for network incidents, implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software development and operations, to integrate new services and technologies.
• Conduct performance monitoring and capacity planning to ensure optimal network efficiency and scalability.
• Develop and execute test plans for new network equipment and configurations.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the engineering team.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in telecommunications and network engineering.
• Manage vendor relationships and evaluate new technology solutions.
• Ensure network security protocols are robust and effectively implemented.
