Level Up - Your Talent Partner is seeking a Senior Technical Draughtsman in Germiston to translate design concepts into detailed manufacturing drawings for steel and timber shopfitting fixtures. The role requires strong SolidWorks skills in 2D and 3D and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes.

You will prepare Bills of Quantities, cutting lists, and CNC programmes, while supporting project managers and production teams to ensure drawings align with client specifications and standards.

Qualifications

Job description

The Senior Technical Draughtsman is responsible for producing detailed manufacturing drawings and supporting documentation for steel and timber shopfitting fixtures. Working closely with clients, project managers and production teams, the role ensures that technical drawings accurately translate design concepts into practical manufacturing requirements.

The position requires strong SolidWorks capability across both 2D and 3D design, together with a detailed understanding of steel and timber manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

Drawing Preparation

• Interpret client-provided drawings, artist impressions and renders to create detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Develop accurate SolidWorks designs in both 2D and 3D formats.
• Prepare and issue comprehensive Bills of Quantities and cutting lists.

Production Support

• Create and optimise CNC machine programmes based on manufacturing drawings.
• Prepare technical drawings for client approval and factory production.
• Ensure manufacturing drawings comply with client specifications and required standards.

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with project managers, production teams and quality assurance personnel to support effective project execution.
• Coordinate with other draughtsmen to maintain consistency and share technical practices.

Quality Control

• Review and verify drawings and supporting documentation for accuracy before submission.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies in drawings or client requirements.

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve drawing and production processes.
• Contribute to the development of departmental standards and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, with demonstrated expertise in both 2D and 3D drawing.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly steel and timber manufacturing.
• Proven ability to prepare accurate Bills of Quantities, cutting lists and CNC machine programmes.
• Familiarity with technical specifications, tolerances and material properties.
• Ability to interpret and translate conceptual designs into detailed technical manufacturing drawings.
• Own reliable transport.
• Willingness to work overtime as required.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Additional Information

The role involves working with steel and timber materials, including:

• Flat sheet metal up to 8 mm in thickness.
• Steel tube up to 80 mm in diameter.
• Timber substrates including chipboard, MDF, melawood and veneers.

Manufactured products include steel fixtures and fittings such as racks, rails, gondolas, pegs, bars and brackets, as well as timber units including point-of-sale counters, jewellery counters, cosmetic units, plinths and gondolas.
