Job summary

Placements24 in Welkom is seeking a seasoned Substation Engineer to join our critical infrastructure team. You will design, construct, and maintain electrical substations, supporting safe transmission and distribution of power in the region.

You will guide projects through concept, detailed design, commissioning, and operational support while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in substation engineering.
• Knowledge of high-voltage equipment and protection schemes.
• Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Understanding of South African electrical codes is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of electrical substations, including switchgear and transformers.
• Develop detailed engineering drawings, specs, and packages.
• Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of equipment.
• Perform technical reviews and quality assurance on designs.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
• Provide technical support for existing substations.
