Job summary

Placements24 seeks an Electrical Engineer with expertise in high‑voltage substation design in Upington. You will develop layouts, equipment specifications, and control schemes for critical energy infrastructure.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) and 5+ years of substation experience, with hands-on use of AutoCAD/CDEGS. You’ll collaborate across teams and participate in commissioning activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems specialization.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on substation design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, CDEGS, or similar design tools.
• Strong knowledge of HV equipment, protection relays and control systems.
• Experience with power system analysis and simulation software.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV substation design including layout, equipment spec and single-line diagrams.
• Create detailed drawings for protection/controls, relay settings, and SCADA integration.
• Perform load flow, short circuit and stability studies for substation designs.
• Ensure designs meet IEC/IEEE standards and client/regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with civil, construction teams, and clients through project lifecycle.
• Visit sites for investigation, construction support and commissioning.
