About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Substation Engineer to join their esteemed team in Nelspruit . This role is responsible for the design, engineering, and project management of electrical substations, ensuring reliable power transmission and distribution. You will lead engineering efforts, oversee substation construction and commissioning, and ensure compliance with all safety and technical standards. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of electrical substations, including single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and protection and control schemes.
• Manage substation projects from conceptualization through to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Oversee the construction, testing, and commissioning of new substations and upgrades to existing facilities.
• Ensure adherence to relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations, such as those set by the South African National Standards .
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.
• Collaborate with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure project success and compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) designation is required.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in the design and project management of electrical substations.
• Extensive knowledge of substation equipment (transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, busbars), protection relays , and control systems.
• Proficiency in substation design software and simulation tools.
• Strong project management skills and experience working with utility clients.
