Placements24 is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer based in Benoni, Gauteng, to lead the design, construction, and maintenance of electrical substations critical to the power distribution network.

You will lead engineering teams, ensure on-time delivery within budget and safety standards, and mentor junior engineers. A strong background in HV equipment, protection systems, and control schemes is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• A Master's degree is a strong asset.
• Minimum of 9 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, with a significant focus on substation design and project management.
• Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex substation projects.
• In-depth knowledge of high-voltage electrical equipment, protection systems, and control schemes.
• Proficiency with relevant design and analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, PSS/E).
• Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and safety procedures.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
• Exceptional problem-solving and decision‑making abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, suitable for technical documentation and stakeholder interaction.
• Must be able to work on-site in Benoni and be willing to travel to project sites as needed.
