Job summary

Placements24 seeks a senior Structural Engineer to join the Benoni-based building design team. You will design and analyze structural systems for diverse building projects, ensuring compliance with codes and collaborating with architects and other engineers.

The role requires 5+ years in building design, Pr. Eng. registration with ECSA, and proficiency in ETABS, SAP2000, Prokon, AutoCAD, and Revit. Site visits and mentoring junior staff are expected as part of project delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized university.
• Professional registration as a Pr. Eng. with ECSA is required.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in structural engineering, specifically focused on building design.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software (ETABS, SAP2000, Prokon) and AutoCAD/Revit.
• Strong understanding of concrete, steel, and masonry design principles.
• Experience with building regulations and codes in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze structural systems for various building types, including high-rise buildings, commercial structures, and residential complexes.
• Prepare detailed structural calculations, drawings, and specifications using industry-standard software.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant building codes, standards (e.g., SANS), and best practices.
• Collaborate with architects, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers, and other stakeholders throughout the design process.
• Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and address any structural issues that may arise.
• Review shop drawings and respond to contractor queries during the construction phase.
• Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and draftspersons.
• Stay updated on new materials, technologies, and design methodologies in structural engineering for buildings.
• Assist in the preparation of project proposals and cost estimates.
