Job summary

Unitrade 745 (Pty) Ltd is seeking a professionally registered Senior Structural Engineer to lead complex structural projects from feasibility through to construction. You will oversee multidisciplinary teams, prepare proposals and cost estimates, and ensure technical excellence across commercial developments.

The role requires a BSc/BEng in Civil Engineering, ECSA Pr. Eng registration, and a minimum of 10 years' experience (including 2+ years post-registration).

Qualifications

• BSc/BEng in Civil Engineering required.
• ECSA Pr. Eng registration required.
• 10+ years of relevant experience including at least 2 years post-registration.
• Experience with structural and civil projects in commercial developments.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural engineering projects from inception to completion.

• Conduct feasibility studies, option analyses and technical due diligence.
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports and specifications.

Job description

Take the lead on complex structural engineering projects from feasibility through to construction. Our client is seeking a professionally registered Senior Structural Engineer who can provide strong technical leadership while managing projects, multidisciplinary teams, and key stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead structural engineering projects from inception through to completion.
• Prepare technical and commercial proposals, execution plans, fee proposals and cost estimates.
• Conduct feasibility studies, option analyses and technical due diligence.
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports and specifications.
• Support procurement through tender documentation, scopes of work, bid evaluations and recommendations.
• Coordinate structural design resources to achieve project quality and programme requirements.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, municipalities, government departments and other stakeholders.
• Contribute to business development and strategic planning initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship and quality oversight to junior engineers, technicians and draughting personnel.
• Deliver structural and civil engineering projects across sectors including commercial, retail, hospitality and healthcare.

Requirements:

• BSc/BEng in Civil Engineering.
• ECSA Pr. Eng registration.
• Minimum 10 years' relevant experience, including at least 2 years post-registration.
• Extensive structural and civil engineering project experience.
• Proven experience with commercial developments such as offices, retail, hotels or healthcare facilities.
• Experience with bridges and water-retaining structures will be advantageous.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Prokon and MS Office.
• Strong leadership, interpersonal and people-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
• A strong commitment to safety performance.
