Placements24 in Kimberley, South Africa, seeks a Senior Structural Biologist to lead projects elucidating the 3D structures of biological macromolecules, driving drug discovery through expression, purification, crystallization and structure determination.

You will work at a state-of-the-art facility, coordinating X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM studies, analyzing data to reveal protein mechanisms and collaborating with chemists and biologists to validate targets; publications and IP

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in protein structure determination.
• Proficiency in protein expression and purification techniques.
• Expertise in data collection at synchrotrons or cryo-EM facilities and structure solution/refinement software.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and optimize experiments for protein expression, purification, and crystallization.
• Determine the high-resolution structures of target proteins and protein complexes using X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM.
• Analyze and interpret structural data to understand protein function, mechanism, and interactions.
• Collaborate with medicinal chemists and biologists to guide drug design and target validation efforts.
• Contribute to scientific publications, presentations, and the development of intellectual property.
