Job summary

Placements24 in Sandton seeks a Drainage Engineer to design and implement stormwater drainage systems, perform hydrological analyses, and model hydraulic performance on urban projects. You will ensure sustainability and resilience of infrastructure against water-related challenges across sectors.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in hydrology and hydraulics, with proven experience in drainage design and stormwater management, and a solid grasp of South African water legislation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Hydrology or Water Resources.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience focused on drainage design and stormwater management.
• Proficiency in hydraulic and hydrological modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
• Strong understanding of South African water and environmental legislation.
• Experience with low-impact development (LID) and sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) is an advantage.
• Effective communication and project coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Design stormwater drainage systems, including culverts, channels, detention/retention basins, and infiltration systems.
• Perform hydrological analyses to determine peak flows and water levels for various storm events.
• Conduct hydraulic modeling to assess the performance of drainage infrastructure.
• Prepare detailed design reports, drawings, and specifications for drainage projects.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and local authority requirements for stormwater management.
• Collaborate with land developers, municipal engineers, and environmental consultants.
