Placements24 is seeking a Senior Sound Designer in Paarl, Western Cape, for an on-site role at a growing game studio. You will craft immersive game audio, from effects to ambiances, and implement them in Unity/Unreal using Wwise or FMOD.

You will collaborate with designers and composers to elevate gameplay, manage audio assets, and contribute to the game’s narrative through sound design. 5+ years experience preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional audio design in video games.

• Proficiency with DAWs: Pro Tools, Reaper or Cubase.

About the Role

Our client, an award-winning independent game studio, is seeking a highly creative Senior Sound Designer to join their team in Paarl, Western Cape. This role is essential for crafting immersive audio experiences that elevate gameplay and storytelling. You will be responsible for creating, editing, and implementing a wide range of sound effects, from intricate foley and atmospheric ambiences to impactful combat sounds and user interface feedback. Key Responsibilities

• Design, record, edit, and mix high-quality sound effects for video games.
• Implement sound effects using game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine) and audio middleware (e.g., Wwise, FMOD).
• Collaborate with game designers, level designers, and composers to achieve the desired audio experience.
• Create immersive ambiences, Foley, UI sounds, and impactful gameplay audio.
• Manage the audio asset library, ensuring proper organization and documentation.
• Optimize audio assets for performance and memory usage within the game.
• Stay current with audio technologies, techniques, and industry best practices.
• Contribute creatively to the overall soundscape and narrative of the game.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in sound design for video games.
• A strong portfolio or demo reel showcasing a diverse range of sound design work.
• Proficiency in Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Reaper, Cubase, or similar.
• Experience with audio middleware like Wwise or FMOD.
• Familiarity with game engines (Unity, Unreal Engine) and their audio systems.
• Strong understanding of acoustics, psychoacoustics, and audio mixing principles.
• Excellent creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and take direction effectively.
• Experience in Paarl, Western Cape or South African game development scene is a plus.
