Job summary

60 Degrees in Stellenbosch or Johannesburg is seeking an experienced Senior Solutions Architect to design and deliver technology solutions for complex insurance environments. You will lead architecture across cloud, integrations and APIs, working directly with clients and stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable designs.

Ideal candidates have strong insurance domain experience (personal/commercial lines) and proven leadership in architecture, implementation, and governance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a Solution Architect, Technical Architect, Senior Developer or Technical Lead role.
• Proven track record delivering architecture for complex software implementations.
• Strong understanding of solution and implementation architecture principles.
• Experience working directly with clients at a senior technical level.
• Strong short-term insurance/general insurance experience and understanding of processes, products and systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the solution and implementation architecture for complex client projects.
• Work directly with clients and senior stakeholders to understand business and technical requirements.
• Facilitate technical discovery sessions and architecture workshops.
• Translate business requirements into practical, scalable solution designs.
• Define architecture standards, integration patterns and technical approaches.
• Work across cloud architecture, APIs, integrations, data and platform configuration.
• Produce and communicate solution architecture documentation and diagrams.
• Provide technical direction throughout the implementation lifecycle.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies and mitigation strategies.
• Mentor and guide Solutions Architects and technical team members.
• Conduct technical reviews and provide architectural governance.
• Collaborate with Product, Development, Implementation and Client Delivery teams.
• Support strategic clients and contribute to the evolution of the organisation's technology roadmap.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Solutions Architect to join a growing InsurTech organisation (Working Hybrid in Stellenbosch or Johannesburg) and play a key role in designing and delivering technology solutions for complex insurance environments. This is a senior, client-facing architecture position for someone who understands both technology and the insurance domain. You will work closely with clients, technical teams and business stakeholders to translate complex insurance requirements into scalable, practical technology solutions. The ideal candidate will have experience within short-term insurance, particularly around personal and/or commercial lines, and will be comfortable operating across architecture, implementation, integration and stakeholder management.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the solution and implementation architecture for complex client projects.

OUR REQUIRED EXPERTISE

• 5+ years' experience in a Solution Architect, Technical Architect, Senior Developer or Technical Lead capacity.
• Proven experience delivering architecture for complex software implementations.
• Strong understanding of solution and implementation architecture principles.
• Experience working directly with clients at a senior technical level.
• Strong short-term insurance / general insurance experience.
• Understanding of insurance processes, products and systems.
• Experience with Personal Lines and/or Commercial Lines.
• Strong knowledge of integration patterns and APIs.
• Experience with cloud architecture, ideally Azure.
• Experience working within Agile environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Previous experience mentoring or developing technical professionals.Short-Term Insurance / General Insurance experience in areas such as: Policy administration, Underwriting, Claims, Rating, Product configuration, Renewals, Quote & bind, Insurance platforms / InsurTech, Broker or MGA systems, as well as experience across SA, UK or international insurance markets would be advantageous.
• Solution Architecture, Implementation Architecture, Cloud Architecture, Integration Architecture, API design, Distributed systems Technology: Azure / Cloud, SQL / Microsoft SQL Server, REST APIs, Integration technologies, Microservices / distributed computing, Jira, Confluence and Microsoft / Cloud certifications would be advantageous.
