Job summary

Boardroom Appointments seeks a Senior Back Office Engineer to design and manage server architectures, both virtual and physical, across multiple sites including Johannesburg. The role covers disaster recovery planning, backup environments, and ensuring critical services stay online.

The candidate will maintain security, patching, and high availability, while documenting infrastructure layouts and DR configurations. Experience with AD, Exchange, VMware and monitoring tools is essential.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Information Technology or related field
• VMware certification (VCAP or VCDX)
• Knowledge of cloud services (Azure, Office 365, Mimecast)
• Experience in mining/industrial environments
• 7+ years virtualization experience in a business environment
• 7+ years with large corporate customers
• Experience designing infrastructure aligned to business requirements
• Knowledge of monitoring, network diagnostics and analytics tools
• VMware networking components (DVS, NSX)
• ISO 27002 knowledge an advantage
• Additional network certifications an advantage
• Linux/Unix knowledge an advantage
• Security features (proxy, WAF, IPSEC/VPN, IDS, UTM)

Responsibilities

• Design and architect on-premises and virtual server environments
• Manage disaster recovery planning and backup environments
• Provide on-call support for server infrastructure
• Document server infrastructure and DR configurations
• Engage with suppliers regarding outages and incident reporting
• Maintain system security, patches and redundancy strategies
• Ensure critical services (Exchange, AD, SAP, mining/plant systems) are available
• Maintain security monitoring and reporting (SolarWinds, Mimecast, Exchange)
• Identify bottlenecks and resolve server configuration issues
• Work across teams to ensure server performance and reliability
