Job summary

AGC Recruitment Pty Ltd in Sandton seeks a skilled Systems Administrator for a global legal practice. The role is responsible for installing, supporting, and maintaining the companys computer systems as well as planning for outages and responding to incidents.

The candidate will apply OS updates, analyse logs, integrate new technologies, conduct routine audits, document system implementations, troubleshoot problems, and manage day-to-day hosting operations including 2nd/3rd line support.

Qualifications

  • MCSE (Advantageous)
  • MCP/MCTS (Advantageous)
  • 1-2 years with server hardware and virtualization
  • 3 years end-user interaction across business levels
  • 3+ years in a corporate data centre environment

Responsibilities

  • Apply OS updates, patches and config changes
  • Analyse system logs for potential issues

About the job Systems Administrator - Sandton
Role summary

Our client, a global legal practice, is seeking a skilled and qualified Systems Administrator.

The role is responsible for installing, supporting, and maintaining the companys computer systems as well as planning for and responding to service outages and other incidents.

Key performance areas

The role will involve but is not limited to the following:

  • Apply operating system updates, patches and configuration changes
  • Analyse system logs and identifying potential issues
  • Introduce and integrate new technologies into existing environments
  • Perform routine audits of systems and software
  • Document the implementation of systems
  • Troubleshoot any reported problems
  • Contribute to the investigation and analysis of the feasibility of system requirements and assist in developing system specifications.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company's hosting environment by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance procedures and escalations.
  • Perform 2nd and 3rd level troubleshooting as required.
  • Assist with the following:
    • Collect and analyse operational data (especially incident and change records) to identify emerging trends and log problem records to assist with problem resolution and increased server availability.
    • Proactively analysis of the backup service to streamline and enhance the overall service recoverability.
    • Plan and implement maintenance activities required for the various system platforms.
  • Identify methods, solutions, to deliver a high level of service to all business units, this may include project work.
  • Assist in the monitoring and in-depth troubleshooting of backup and restore failures.
  • Managing services with cloud provider such as Microsoft 365, Azure, and AWS.
  • Installing and configuring Windows and Linux systems.
  • Monitoring of Virtual machines.
  • Monitoring of systems throughout the company.
  • Recommend and participate in team discussions regarding system improvements, upgrades and repairs.
  • Respond to and resolve monitoring alerts related to areas of responsibility.
  • Respond to emergency system outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans. Adhere to our Major Incident response processes.
  • Document processes and procedures related to IT tasks and responsibilities
Job Requirements
Desired Qualifications & Experience
  • MCSE (Advantageous)
  • MCP / MCTS (Advantageous)
  • 1-2 years of relevant professional experience with server hardware and virtualization.
  • 3 years experience directly interacting with end users at all levels of business.
  • 3+ years working in a corporate datacentre environment
Skills and Experience
  • General understanding of TCP/IP networking and VLANs
  • Experience with performance and service availability monitoring
  • Virtualization technology
  • Network Infrastructure
  • An understanding of HTTP, Apache, Tomcat, DNS, FTP, SSH.
  • Microsoft SQL Server (Advantageous)
  • Microsoft Server Administration (Advantageous) (2016+)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10 & 11 and Office products
  • Knowledge of and ability to support Windows servers and related tools primarily Server 2016+.
  • Experience with Microsoft patch management systems and process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work within a team and/or independently.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, current knowledge of technology and the ability to be a continuous learner leveraging a wide variety of resources
  • Experience or exposure to video conference technologies
  • Process driven Ability to stick to defined processes and best practice in dealing with issues.
  • Change and Problem Management awareness and exposure is desirable (ITIL Certification advantageous)
  • Ability to communicate complex technical constructs in simple language
  • Time and priority management
