Takealot.com, South Africa's leading online retailer, is seeking a Software Engineer (Search) to join our team. You will focus on maintaining and evolving our search stack, with exposure to Elasticsearch and Vertex AI Search, Solr, and Algolia.

The role emphasizes building robust software for an e-commerce platform and participating in architectural discussions. You will implement best practices, develop production-grade code in Python (and other back-end languages), and provide after-hours

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in CS, engineering, or related field.
• 5 to 10 years of software development experience.
• Experience with search technologies (Elasticsearch, Vertex AI Search, Solr, Algolia).
• Strong CS fundamentals: OOP, data structures, algorithms.
• Proficient in Python, Java, or Go; RESTful APIs; SQL; Linux.

Responsibilities

• Design and build solutions to assist business users and improve customer experience.

• Develop high-quality production code for complex, large-scale systems.
