Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Reservoir Engineer for our client in Welkom, Free State. The role focuses on detailed analysis, modeling, and management of underground reservoirs to optimize extraction and ensure sustainable operations.

An advanced degree and at least eight years in reservoir engineering with hands-on experience in simulation software, data analysis, and multidisciplinary collaboration are required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related quantitative field.
• 8+ years hands-on reservoir engineering experience, preferably in oil & gas or mining resource extraction.
• Proven expertise in reservoir simulation software (ECLIPSE, CMG, PETREL RE).
• Strong analytical skills with understanding of fluid flow in porous media, thermodynamics, and geology.
• Experience with data analysis, statistics, and uncertainty assessment.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
• Familiarity with South African mining regulations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed reservoir models using specialized simulation software.
• Analyze geological and production data to estimate reserves and predict future reservoir performance.
• Design and implement reservoir management strategies to maximize recovery.
• Evaluate economic viability of new development projects and infill drilling.
• Conduct decline curve analysis and material balance calculations.
• Collaborate with geologists, geophysicists, and production engineers to integrate data.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports and present findings to management and stakeholders.
• Stay current with advancements in reservoir engineering techniques and technologies.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and environmental standards.
