Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Control Engineer for a fully remote role serving clients in the oil and gas sector. You will design, implement, and support advanced control systems and instrumentation across industrial processes from a remote location in South Africa.

You will work with a global team on projects from concept to commissioning, applying your expertise in PLC/DCS, SIS, and field instrumentation to optimize safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of instrumentation and control engineering experience in industrial automation.
• Proven experience with PLC/DCS programming and configuration (Siemens, Rockwell, Emerson).
• Strong knowledge of field instrumentation, control valves, and industrial standards.
• Experience with SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, HART).
• Familiarity with SIS design and lifecycle management.
• Excellent problem-solving and remote collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and specify instrumentation and control systems (PLCs, DCS, SCADA, SIS).
• Develop P&ID diagrams and control loop strategies.
• Configure PLC/DCS systems and HMI/SCADA software.
• Develop FAT and SAT plans and documentation.
• Provide remote technical support and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with clients and project teams to ensure on-time delivery.
• Ensure compliance with IEC 61508/61511 and project specs.
• Contribute to HAZOP studies and risk assessments.
• Maintain up-to-date design and testing documentation.
