Placements24 is seeking a Remote Blockchain Protocol Engineer to advance core blockchain protocols from Mpumalanga, South Africa. You will contribute to performance, security, and scalability while working in a fully remote, asynchronous environment with a world-class engineering team.

The role emphasizes hands-on development in Go or Rust, research into cryptographic techniques, and collaboration across teams to implement protocol upgrades.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cryptography, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in systems programming, distributed systems, or cryptography.
• Deep understanding of blockchain architecture, consensus algorithms (PoW/PoS), and networking protocols.
• Proven experience in developing low-level systems or network protocols, preferably in Go, Rust, or C++.
• Strong knowledge of cryptographic primitives and their application in blockchain.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote, asynchronous environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement core blockchain protocols and consensus mechanisms.
• Optimize the performance, security, and scalability of existing blockchain networks.
• Contribute to research and development of new cryptographic techniques and distributed system architectures.
• Write high-quality, efficient, and well-tested code in Go or Rust.
• Collaborate with other engineering teams to integrate protocol upgrades and new features.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to network stability and protocol integrity.
