PURPOSE OF ROLE
The Senior QA/QC Technician is responsible for assisting to ensure that all Engineering, Procurement and Construction activities carried out by Lesedi Nuclear Services and its subcontractors — for nuclear projects — conform to client requirements, applicable codes and standards, statutory regulations and internal SHEQ/IMS management systems, including nuclear-specific quality assurance requirements such as NQA-1 and IAEA 50-C/S-Q.
The role ensures the effective implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of Quality Assurance and Quality Control systems across nuclear projects, providing senior technical oversight of QA/QC inspections, audits and documentation, and supporting safe, compliant and high-quality project delivery in liaison with other Lesedi departments and in compliance with the Lesedi IMS.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Management System (QMS) Implementation
- Support compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 19443, NQA-1 and other applicable accreditations within assigned projects and divisional activities.
- Review and provide input into QA/QC procedures, work instructions, checklists and templates developed through the Central Quality Function Implement standardised QA/QC processes and project process control procedures across assigned sites andSupport continual improvement initiatives within the QMS framework and align procedures and policies to industry norms and standards.
Quality Control Inspections & Surveillances
- Perform QA/QC inspections during construction and fabrication activities.
- Conduct receipt inspections of materials and verify compliance with QCPs, SIDs, ISs, TPs and WPs.
- Witness welding qualification tests and issue Stop Work Orders where required.
- Compile punch lists and perform Certificate of Conformance (COC) inspections.
Audits, Compliance & Non-Conformance Management
- Support internal audits and participate in divisional self-assessments as required by the Central Quality Function, ensuring records are maintained. Support supplier assessments, surveillance activities and technical evaluations as requested by Central Quality.Identify, report and document NCRs; log, track and help close out audit findings, NCRs and corrective/preventive actions; monitor trends and propose corrective and preventive actions.
- Prepare audit documentation and evidence packs and support client audits and inspections in a professional manner.
Training, Awareness & Stakeholder Support
- Deliver project-specific QA/QC awareness and induction training based on approved corporate training material.Provide guidance to project teams on quality standards, codes and regulatory requirements.
- Promote good work practices, conformance to requirements and a good health and safety culture on site.
- Support project management teams with quality planning and execution.
- Contribute to monthly QA communications, toolbox talks and project quality awareness initiatives.
Project & Supplier Quality Support
- Help prepare and review Project Quality Plans (PQPs) for nuclear projects.
- Provide input to supplier performance evaluations, supplier quality assessments and supplier monitoring activities.Identify opportunities for improvement (OFIs) and best practices, and produce ideas and plans for efficiencies.
- Provide continuous quality management and support to all projects to enhance compliance to procedures and processes.
QUALIFICATION
- Technical qualification in Engineering or Quality (e.g. Diploma in Quality Management Systems).
- Welding Inspector certification advantageous.
- Auditor qualification advantageous.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 (mandatory).
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 10 years' related QA & QC experience in an EPC environment.
- Proven experience in QA/QC inspection and auditing, including supplier and internal audits.
- Experience working with engineering codes, standards and welding processes.
- Able to review designs and read Isometric and P&ID drawings.
- Nuclear project exposure and training in nuclear power plant operation.
- Experience in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies advantageous.
