Take the Lead on Quality in a High-PerformanceEngineering Environment
Are you an experienced Quality Control professional withstrong expertise in fabrication, welding, NDT and manufacturing quality?
SQ1 Recruitment is partnering with an establishedengineering organisation operating within the mineral processing and miningequipment sector to appoint an experienced QC Manager. This is a senior, hands-on quality leadership role responsible for ensuring manufacturedproducts, fabricated components, assemblies and project deliverablesconsistently meet stringent customer, engineering and international qualitystandards.
Reporting to the Contracts Director, you will leadthe QC function, oversee inspections and testing throughout the manufacturingprocess, manage non-conformances and corrective actions, coordinate customerinspections and FATs, and champion continuous improvement across manufacturingand project execution.
This opportunity will suit a technically strong QCprofessional who understands the realities of an engineering workshop and canconfidently engage with production teams, engineers, suppliers, customers andthird-party inspectors.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Management
- Develop,implement and continuously improve quality control procedures andinspection processes.
- Ensurecompliance with the company's Quality Management System (QMS) andapplicable quality standards.
- Maintainquality procedures, inspection records, reports and supportingdocumentation.
- Drivecontinuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and projectexecution.
- Monitorquality performance, including defects, rework, customer complaints andquality-related costs.
Inspection, Testing & Manufacturing Quality
- Overseeincoming, in-process and final inspections.
- Ensureinspection and testing activities are completed in accordance withapproved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Verifycompliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, applicablecodes and standards.
- Overseequality requirements relating to welding, fabrication, machining,assembly and pressure equipment.
- Ensuremeasuring and testing equipment is appropriately calibrated andmaintained.
- Maintaineffective material identification and traceability throughoutmanufacturing.
Welding & NDT Quality
- Providetechnical oversight relating to welding procedures and qualifications,including WPS, PQR and WPQ.
- Ensurerelevant NDT activities are performed and evaluated in accordance withapplicable requirements.
- Applyknowledge of relevant pressure equipment, piping, welding and fabricationcodes and standards.
Non-Conformance & Continuous Improvement
- Investigatequality issues and non-conformances.
- Leadstructured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities.
- Implementand monitor Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Verifythe effectiveness of corrective actions and identify opportunities toprevent recurrence.
- Drivemeasurable improvements in first-pass acceptance, rework and overallquality performance.
- Lead,mentor and develop the Quality Control team.
- Allocateinspection resources effectively across manufacturing and projectactivities.
- Conductperformance evaluations and identify training and developmentrequirements.
- Builda culture centred on quality, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Monitorand evaluate supplier quality performance.
- Participatein supplier qualification and evaluation processes.
- Reviewsupplier inspection documentation, certificates and quality records.
- Supportsupplier audits when required.
Customer & Project Quality
- Liaiseprofessionally with customers, consultants, inspectors and third-partyinspection agencies.
- Coordinatecustomer inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
- Ensureproject quality documentation is complete, accurate and submitted withinrequired timelines.
- Supportproject teams through manufacturing and commissioning phases.
Compliance, Audits & Reporting
- Ensurecompliance with applicable ISO standards, customer specifications,statutory requirements and industry regulations.
- Planand participate in internal and external quality audits.
- Maintainaudit records and ensure findings are closed within agreed timelines.
- Prepareand present quality KPIs and performance reports to senior management.
- Analysetrends and recommend practical quality and cost-improvement initiatives.
Requirements
Qualifications & Certifications
- NationalDiploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering,Industrial Engineering, Quality Management, or a related discipline.
- IWI-S/ IWI-C / CSWIP Welding Inspector, or equivalent.
- IWT/IWEqualification or strong practical knowledge of welding procedures,WPS/PQR/WPQ.
- ISO9712 Level 2 in relevant NDT methods, with VT, PT, MT and UT asa minimum.
- Soundunderstanding and working knowledge of ASME Section VIII Division 1,ASME IX and ASME B31.3.
Experience
- Solidquality control experience gained within a manufacturing, miningequipment or mineral processing environment (Fabrication / Welding).
- Atleast 5 years' experience in a quality leadership or supervisory role.
- Strongknowledge and practical application of Quality Management Systems.
- Experiencewith ISO 9001:2015 requirements and implementation.
- Strongknowledge of welding inspection, fabrication, machining, assembly andpressure equipment quality requirements.
- Abilityto interpret engineering drawings and detailed technical specifications.
- Practicalknowledge of inspection techniques, NDT and material traceability.
- Provenexperience coordinating customer inspections and FATs.
- Experienceapplying root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
