Job summary

remotepeople seeks an experienced Project Manager to lead complex capital projects in the mining sector from Cape Town. You will own scope, schedule, budget and quality, coordinating design, procurement, fabrication and commissioning with a cross-functional team.

You will report to the Project Engineering Manager and drive safe, on-time delivery, while managing client relationships and project risks on high-value assignments.

Qualifications

• B.Tech / B.Sc / B.Eng in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering.
• Project Management qualification.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA (or eligible).
• 10–12 years of project management experience in Mining, Oil & Gas, Mineral Processing or Heavy Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end capital mining projects across design, procurement, fabrication and commissioning.
• Own scope, schedule, budget, quality and client relationships from award to handover.
• Set up project teams, kick-off meetings and sign-off on scope and terms.
• Manage supplier relationships and address technical and commercial issues.
• Establish clear communication channels among project, client and internal teams.
• Identify and mitigate project risks and manage HS&E plans.
• Oversee change control and monitor expenditure against approved budgets.

Project Manager (Level III/IV) – Mining Sector | Cape Town

We're looking for an experienced Project Manager to join a leading maritime and mining technology company's Cape Town office. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead complex, end-to-end capital projects within the mining industry, working across design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, and commissioning.

About the Role

As Project Manager, you'll take full ownership of assigned projects — managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client relationships from award through to handover. You'll lead a cross-functional project team and report directly to the Project Engineering Manager, playing a key role in delivering turnkey mining solutions safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and mobilize project teams during enquiry and award stages
• Lead project kick-off meetings and secure client sign-off on scope, schedule, and commercial terms
• Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and quality plans
• Own the full project lifecycle: proposal, design/engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning
• Manage supplier relationships and resolve technical/commercial issues
• Establish clear communication channels between the project, client, and internal disciplines
• Identify and manage project risks, and elevate constraints proactively
• Compile and enforce HS&E plans across all project phases
• Manage change requests, ensuring financial and schedule impacts are documented
• Monitor expenditure to ensure delivery within approved budget

What You'll Need

• B.Tech / B.Sc / B.Eng in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering
• A Project Management qualification
• Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer with ECSA
• 10–12 years' project management experience, ideally within Mining, Oil & Gas, Mineral Processing, or Heavy Engineering
• Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
• Ability to perform under pressure with high attention to detail
• Willingness to travel and work flexible/extended hours when required
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and MS Project
• Own transportation
