Job summary

  • Knowledge and experience within Mining, Oil and Gas, Mineral Processing or Heavy Engineering sectors.

Job description

IHC South Africa is seeking a Project Manager for its Cape Town office. The Project Manager will oversee all phases, activities and tasks of assigned projects to ensure timely, on‑budget delivery and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Project Engineering Manager in developing the operational department year plan.
  • Set up projects during the enquiry and award stages, appointing associated project teams.
  • Manage allocated projects, providing leadership and guidance to the project team.
  • Schedule and conduct project kick‑off meetings.
  • Obtain client approval of scope of supply, delivery schedule, price and commercial conditions.
  • Document customer acceptance criteria for each deliverable.
  • Develop and manage a project schedule outlining sequence of activities and tasks.
  • Maintain the project budget based on the contract and finalised scope of supply.
  • Ensure required work packages are compiled for successful execution.
  • Define quality targets, standards, assurance and control procedures; document in a Quality Plan and ensure adequate quality assurance and control techniques are undertaken.
  • Establish and maintain a clear communications plan with the client and inter‑departmental disciplines and external specialists.
  • Develop and manage project risks and mitigation plans approved by the Project Engineering Manager.
  • Compile a HS\&E Plan and ensure compliance with health, safety, environment procedures throughout the project phases.
  • Manage the execution of the project, monitoring and controlling expenditure to stay within the approved budget.
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding technical issues and expediting.
  • Approve all project change requests, documenting financial and schedule implications.
  • Obtain client acceptance of each deliverable produced.
  • Resolve issues affecting the project and alert the Project Engineering Manager if constraints will not be met.
  • Ensure compliance with the configuration management system.
  • Manage the proposal, design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, assembly, delivery, installation and commissioning phases of the project, ensuring successful takeover and handover.
Qualifications
  • B. Tech / B. Sc / B. Eng degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering.
  • 10–12 years of relevant project management experience.
  • Project Management qualification.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.
  • Knowledge and experience within Mining, Oil and Gas, Mineral Processing or Heavy Engineering sectors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal ability.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to perform under pressure.
  • High attention to detail, managerial leadership ability and cross‑functional leadership.
  • Willingness to work demanding schedule, flexible hours, including after hours, and to travel.
  • Ability to operate as part of a team, disciplined, self‑motivated, organised and results driven.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, MS Project).
  • Own transportation.
