Job summary

MSP Staffing (PTY) LTD client seeks a highly experienced Senior Professional Structural Engineer or Technologist to lead structural projects and grow the structural department. The role targets an ECSA-registered professional with extensive design and contract administration experience, strong technical expertise, and leadership skills to mentor teams.

The role requires an ECSA-registered professional with at least 10 years post-registration experience, and proficiency with structural software

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.
• ECSA registration as Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng.
• Minimum 10 years of post-registration experience in structural design and contract administration.
• Experience with bulk water reservoirs, water treatment works, stormwater, and reinforced concrete/steel structures is advantageous.
• Proficiency with MasterSeries or Prokon; familiarity with ACC Docs/ACC Build is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design, and contract administration of building and engineering projects from inception to completion.
• Prepare structural calculations, specifications, tender documents, and detailed project reports.
• Conduct structural condition assessments and provide technical recommendations.
• Manage designers and draughtspersons to ensure high-quality deliverables on time and within budget.
• Review, evaluate, and approve technical work; allocate department resources.
• Mentor candidate engineers and technologists and support junior staff development.
• Contribute to engineering, operating, and capital cost estimates; oversee construction and QA.
• Lead site and technical meetings and maintain communication with clients and stakeholders.
• Support construction safety, environmental compliance, and project quality management.
• Drive business development initiatives for the structural department.

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Professional Structural Engineer or Technologist to lead structural engineering projects and contribute to the strategic growth of the structural department. This role is suited to an ECSA-registered professional with extensive design and contract administration experience, strong technical expertise, and the ability to manage teams, mentor emerging professionals, and deliver complex engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design, and contract administration of building and engineering projects from inception to completion.
• Prepare structural engineering calculations, technical specifications, tender documents, and detailed project reports.
• Conduct structural condition assessments and provide technical recommendations.
• Manage and coordinate designers and draughtspersons to ensure high-quality deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
• Review, evaluate, and approve technical work prepared by engineering teams.
• Manage structural department resources and allocate workloads according to project priorities and available capacity.
• Mentor candidate engineers and technologists and support the professional development of junior staff.
• Contribute to engineering, operating, and capital cost estimates.
• Oversee contract administration, manage structural works during construction, and resolve technical queries and disputes.
• Lead site and technical meetings and maintain effective communication with clients and project stakeholders.
• Support construction safety, environmental compliance, and project quality management.
• Drive business development initiatives for the structural department.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, with a focus on Structural Engineering.
• Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng).
• At least 10 years of verifiable post-registration experience in structural engineering design and contract administration.
• Experience with bulk water reservoirs, water treatment works, stormwater infrastructure, water-retaining structures, reinforced concrete, and steel-framed structures will be advantageous.
• Proficiency in MasterSeries or Prokon, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Project.
• Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Construction Cloud, including ACC Docs and ACC Build, will be advantageous.
