Job summary

City of Cape Town is seeking a qualified Professional Engineer to lead statutory compliance initiatives, including inspections and regulatory adherence across building safety, plant and machinery, and construction safety domains. The role requires strong OH&S knowledge, GCC consideration, and proven experience in compliance delivery.

The incumbent will manage capital and operational projects, oversee maintenance dashboards, and ensure accurate reporting.

Qualifications

• Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
• GCC under General Machinery Regulations, advantageous under OHS Act.
• 5–8 years of relevant experience in Statutory Compliance.
• Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
• Proficient in MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking of compliance inspections.
• Providing technical compliance support to clients on building, plant & machinery, construction safety and general OH&S compliance under OHS Act 85 of 1993.
• Managing Capital and Operational Projects.
• Controlling and monitoring reactive and preventative maintenance dashboards and performance.

Requirements:

• Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa
• Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) in terms of the General Machinery Regulations (GMR) under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and registration as a Certificated Engineer will be advantageous
• 5 - 8 years relevant and functional experience within Statutory Compliance
• Working knowledge of relevant Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
• Proficient in MS Office applications

Key Performance Areas:

• Undertaking of compliance inspections
• Provision of technical compliance related support to clients related to building safety compliance, plant & Machinery safety compliance and Construction safety compliance, as well as general OH&S compliance in terms of the OHS Act no 85 of 1993
• Managing Capital and Operational Projects
• Controlling & Monitoring of Reactive and Preventative maintenance dashboards and its respective Performance
