Job summary

SASSO CONSULTING in Boksburg, Gauteng, seeks an experienced Product Compliance Manager to establish and maintain product compliance, technical risk, reliability, field safety and training frameworks in a mining and safety-critical environment.

This technical, product-focused role ensures products comply with MHSA, ISO 45001, and regulatory standards across the lifecycle, with responsibility for certification, RMA, investigations and competency-based training across branches and mines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, risk management, safety management or related technical field.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in product compliance, technical risk and reliability.
• At least 3 years' experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in mining, industrial or safety-critical environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain product compliance, technical risk, reliability, safety and training frameworks.
• Ensure products meet MHSA, ISO 45001, SANS standards and customer requirements throughout lifecycle.
• Manage product certification and recertification including MASC, ICASA, ISERT, ITC and other approvals.
• Maintain technical compliance files, test reports, risk assessments and documentation.
• Lead risk-management processes including FMEA, WRAC, risk registers and mitigation plans.
• Oversee RMA investigations, root-cause analysis and reliability improvements.
• Monitor regulatory changes and support audits.

Location: Boksburg, Gauteng
Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: R50,000 – R60,000 per month
Benefits: After successful completion of a 4-month probation period, 50% medical aid contribution up to a specified plan and pension fund benefits.

Main Purpose of the Role

An opportunity exists for an experienced Product Compliance Manager to take responsibility for establishing, implementing and maintaining product compliance, technical risk, product reliability, field safety and technical training frameworks.

This is a technical, product-focused compliance role within a mining and safety-critical environment and is not a SHEQ position.

The successful candidate will ensure that products comply with applicable legislation, regulations, standards, certifications and customer requirements throughout the complete product lifecycle.

The role includes responsibility for technical risk, product certification and recertification, RMA and reliability investigations, field service safety, technical training and the development and control of technical training material.

Education, Experience & Competencies

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Risk Management, Safety Management, Compliance or a related technical field.
• Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in product compliance, technical risk, engineering compliance or product reliability.
• At least 3 years' experience managing technical or multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience within mining, industrial or another safety-critical environment.
• Strong working knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA).
• Strong knowledge of OHSA, Section 21, Regulation 8.10, ISO 45001, SANS standards and applicable certification requirements.
• Practical experience with FMEA, WRAC, risk assessments, risk registers and mitigation plans.
• Experience with ICAM/root-cause analysis, RMA and product reliability processes.
• Strong technical report-writing, data-analysis and document-control skills.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Training/facilitation, OHS, Quality, Risk Management or ISO 45001 qualifications would be advantageous.
• Must be medically fit and willing to travel regularly to branches, customer sites and mines.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain product compliance, technical risk, reliability, safety and technical training frameworks.
• Ensure products comply with relevant legislation, regulations, SANS standards, certifications and customer requirements throughout their lifecycle.
• Manage product certification and recertification, including MASC, ICASA, ISERT, ITC and other applicable approvals.
• Maintain technical compliance files, certificates, test reports, risk assessments and supporting documentation.
• Lead technical and operational risk-management processes, including FMEA, WRAC, risk registers and mitigation plans.
• Oversee RMA investigations, root-cause analysis, reliability investigations and product-improvement initiatives.
• Analyse product and field failures, identify trends and ensure appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
• Manage field-service safety and support the ongoing implementation of the ISO 45001 safety-management system.
• Oversee investigations into incidents, technical failures, non-conformances and safety events.
• Lead and develop Technical Trainers and ensure effective competency-based technical training across branches and customer sites.
• Own the development, approval and document control of technical training materials, assessments and competency standards.
• Support product development, testing, validation, change control and release processes, ensuring compliance, risk, reliability, safety and training requirements are addressed.
• Monitor regulatory changes and support internal and external audits.
• Ensure audit findings and corrective actions are appropriately addressed and closed.
• Provide product compliance support for RFQs and tenders when required.
• Manage departmental objectives, resources, direct reports and performance.
• Provide regular reporting covering compliance, technical risk, RMA, reliability, safety and training.

Important Candidate Profile

This position requires a technically orientated Product Compliance professional, rather than a general SHEQ/HSE Manager. Candidates should demonstrate strong exposure to mining product compliance, MHSA requirements, technical risk, product certification, reliability and investigation of technical/product failures.
