Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Product Development Engineer in Richards Bay to lead the full product lifecycle from concept through testing and manufacturing support, with a hybrid work model.

You will direct design of mechanical systems, create detailed CAD models and drawings, perform design reviews and DFMEA, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with suppliers and manufacturing partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 8+ years in product development with a mechanical focus.
• Proficient in CAD software and PLM systems.
• Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes (injection molding, machining), and tolerance analysis.
• DFMEA experience is desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of mechanical products and systems.
• Oversee creation of 3D models, drawings, and manufacturing specifications.
• Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and performance validation testing.

About the Role

Our client seeks a seasoned Senior Product Development Engineer to contribute to their innovative projects based in Richards Bay . This role operates on a hybrid model, allowing for a flexible work arrangement. You will be pivotal in the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept and design through to testing, validation, and manufacturing support. We are looking for a proactive engineer with a strong track record in developing new products and a deep understanding of mechanical principles, who can lead design initiatives and drive technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of new mechanical products and systems.
• Oversee the creation of detailed 3D models, drawings, and specifications for manufacturing.
• Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and performance validation testing.
• Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM).
• Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues encountered during prototyping and production.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on the product development team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering .
• Over 8 years of experience in product development, with a focus on mechanical systems.
• Proficiency in CAD software and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
• Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, machining), and tolerance analysis .
• Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) is highly desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and project leadership skills.
