Job summary

Placements24 in Klerksdorp is seeking a process safety engineer to enhance safety protocols across oil & gas and chemical facilities. You will lead hazard management, risk assessments, and safety culture initiatives to protect personnel and the environment.

Responsibilities include PHAs (HAZOP/HAZID), implementing PSM programs, SIS design, incident investigations, and staff training to uphold high safety standards in a challenging industrial setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years in process safety engineering in Oil & Gas or chemical industry.
• Strong knowledge of PSM elements, risk assessment, and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM).
• Experience with SIL assessment and LOPA studies is desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to influence stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Conduct PHAs such as HAZOP/HAZID/What-If studies.
• Develop and implement Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Design and specify safety instrumented systems (SIS) and other safety devices.
• Provide technical support and training on process safety principles to staff.
