Job summary

Placements24 in Vereeniging seeks an experienced Process Safety Engineer to ensure safety and integrity of chemical processing within oil and gas facilities. You will develop, implement, and maintain robust process safety management systems and lead hazard analyses.

The role requires a chemical engineering degree, 5+ years in process safety, SIS familiarity, strong communication, and ability to work across operations and engineering teams; relocation support is available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably in oil & gas or chemical industry.
• Strong knowledge of PSM elements, PHA methodologies, and risk assessment techniques.
• Familiarity with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and hazardous area classifications.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a plant environment and collaborate with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies.
• Manage and maintain safety-critical equipment (SCE) integrity programs.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to plant personnel.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and industry best practices.
