Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Process Safety Engineer for a major industrial facility in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The role focuses on identifying, assessing, and mitigating process hazards to prevent incidents and maintain a safe workplace.

You will develop and apply robust process safety management systems, conduct safety studies, and promote a strong safety culture across the organization. A chemical or mechanical engineering background is essential, with a proven commitment to process safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process safety engineering in chemical/petrochemical/oil and gas.
• Familiarity with PHA methodologies (HAZOP/HAZID/LOPA).
• Strong knowledge of PSM principles and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in PHAs (HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA).
• Develop, implement, and maintain PSM programs and policies.
• Conduct incident investigations and root cause analyses for process safety events.
• Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards (OSHA PSM, API).
• Deliver process safety training to operational personnel.
• Review designs and MOC processes for safety implications.
• Conduct safety audits and inspections of facilities and equipment.
• Promote a proactive safety culture across the organization.
• Prepare technical reports and recommendations on process safety matters.
