Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Process Mechanical Engineer to join our client in Durban. This hands-on role focuses on optimizing the mechanical integrity of complex processing facilities and ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in line with industry standards.

You will lead design and installation of process equipment, develop maintenance programs, oversee risk-based inspections, and drive projects with operations, maintenance and safety teams to achieve

Competenze

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 8+ years of experience in process industries (petrochemical, chemical, or oil and gas).
• Experience with design, operation and maintenance of pumps, compressors, turbines and pressure vessels.
• Knowledge of ASME and API codes.
• Experience with maintenance management software and CAD tools.
• Strong project management and communication skills with on-site plant experience.

About the Role

Our client, a major player in the petrochemical industry, is seeking an experienced Senior Process Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Durban . This role is crucial for optimizing and maintaining the mechanical integrity of our client's complex processing facilities. You will be responsible for ensuring that all mechanical equipment and systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in process equipment design, maintenance strategies, and troubleshooting within an industrial plant environment. This is a hands‑on role that requires a deep understanding of rotating equipment, static equipment, and piping systems, as well as excellent project management skills. You will work closely with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to achieve operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the design, specification, and installation of new mechanical process equipment, including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, and reactors.
• Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for critical mechanical assets.
• Conduct mechanical integrity inspections and risk-based assessments for static and rotating equipment.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Manage mechanical modification projects, ensuring compliance with design standards, safety regulations, and project budgets.
• Review and approve mechanical drawings, calculations, and technical specifications.
• Provide technical support and guidance to maintenance and operations personnel.
• Ensure all mechanical operations comply with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) standards.
• Participate in HAZOP studies and other safety reviews related to mechanical systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in process industries, such as petrochemical, chemical, or oil and gas.
• Proven experience with the design, operation, and maintenance of various types of process equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines, pressure vessels, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API).
• Experience with mechanical integrity programs and risk-based inspection methodologies.
• Proficiency in using maintenance management software and CAD tools.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on safety and efficiency.
• Strong project management and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively on-site in a plant environment.
